Online Student to Deliver Commencement Speech – in Person

Unknown-1Michael DeVault, a Lindenwood University online student from Monroe, Louisiana, will have the honor of being one of two students speakers at Lindenwood University’s first December commencement exercises at 7 p.m. Friday, December 13 in the Hyland Arena. DeVault will receive his MFA in Writing.

DeVault is a writer and journalist who has worked at virtually every level of the media industry, from freelance reporter to editor-in-chief. He also worked for a period of time in broadcast journalism. DeVault has covered some of the biggest stories in recent history, including Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Gustav, and the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

When he is not practicing journalism, DeVault writes novels. His most recent novel, The Patriot Joe Morton, was First Runner Up for the 2010 Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society gold medal in novella. Previous novels include Anything But Ordinary, also a runner up for a Faulkner medal, and A Glimpse of Tuscany.

DeVault teaches writing at Louisiana Delta Community College.
